Welcome to Wattle's and Bumbler's Holiday Pictures,

And the animals came...two by two,
Ok.....it was one by one....

Here is the intrepid bumbler risking life and limb by coming face to face with a ferocious koala. Note to look of fear in the eyes of the park ranger holding this viscious animal at bay. Boy that sounded good, but actually the koala is one of the most taciturn animals that I have ever seem. This one would have let me do just about anything I wanted to. It was really wonderful to be able to see one of these cute guys up close.

Glenys say's that no visit to Australia is complete unless you get to walk in kangaroo poo. We did just that as we strolled though the kangaroos that are kept at Dreamworld. They are lovely animals that usually spent most of their time ignoring us. The ones that we are patting here were about the largest that were there. We did see one that was larger but he wasn't in a photographing mood. We thought it best to let him have his way.

This little fellow is called a wallaby or potteroo and was running wild at O'Reilly's Mountain. I spotted him and immediatly took off, camera in hand, to try to get a photo of him. It seems that the joke was on me because he was quite used to having people around and was in no hurry to get anywhere. I took several shots of him as I inched my way closer. It wasn't untill he heard the click from the camera when I took this shot that he gave me a dirty look and hopped away.

This is Glenys' most favorite animal, the wombat. It was doing it's best to hide from everyone, because it is a shy animal and even though it is kept in a cage, it still doesn't like company. Accordong to the ranger the wombat uses it's butt and powerful hind legs as a weapon. The wombat will lure it's attackers into a hollow log or burrow and then trap it between it's butt and the walls of whatever it is in, holding it there until it dies. It has a very leathery butt that can take a lot of abuse. They have nice soft fur and love to be scratched.
