I had promised to take Glenys back to North Conway to see how much things differ there between fall and winter and as can be expected it started snowing while we were on the way. She was thrilled to be driving along with the swirling snow flying all around us giving the whole of the drive a magical air. As can be easily seen, the snowplows had not been able to clear the road and it was just the passing of the cars that kept the paths clear. And while I was complaining about the poor visability she was happily snapping away with her camera.
After a nearly 3 hour drive our destination was finally in sight. The snow had finally eased off by the time we arrived and we couldn't wait to get inside to thaw out. The condo is in the Eastern Slope Inn building which was constructed as a ski lodge over 100 years ago and is on the national register of historic places. She is one of the grand hotels that dotted the landscape of the mountains and in their heyday attracted some of the worlds most famous and influential people.
The condo has of course been updated since it was constructed. One of the really nice features is an olympic sized heated swimming pool complete with jacuzzi and sauna. The look on Glenys face when I told her that we would have to walk through all this snow in our togs to have a dip was priceless. Of course the pool can be accessed without going outside but I couldn't resist making her wonder.
By late afternoon we decided we were ready to brave the elements again and go explore the local shops. The footpath had been plowed earlier in the day and snow was piled high on both sides so you felt like you were walking in a narrow white valley.
